“The Mauritian delegation has impressed the Seychellois public and all who attended the 2013 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria,” said the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Alain St.Ange.

This is the first participation by Mauritius at the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival that is staged annually in Seychelles. Mauritius was parading alongside their sister islands of Seychelles, La Reunion, and Madagascar with delegations from the Community of Nations.

Mauritius went to Seychelles with Ms. Shenaz Omarjee of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) as the head of their delegation. They traveled to Seychelles and in so doing showcased the people of Mauritius, the island’s culture, and the unique selling points of Mauritius with the slogan “Maurice c’est un plaisir” [Mauritius is a pleasure] displayed on a big display balloon on a truck following the delegation in the carnival parade.

“Mauritius participated with a sea life theme, and they captured the attention of all who were in Victoria to watch the carnival parade last Saturday. The segatier were all enthusiastic, and the Mauritian ladies in the parade beautifully dressed in a sea motif elegant dress. They did Mauritius proud,” Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister said.

The annual carnival in Seychelles is covered by a large contingent of international groups from the four corners of the world, and Mauritius was clearly able to impress the press by their participation and performance in the carnival parade.

Minister St.Ange used his carnival opening speech in the presence of the island’s President, Mr. James Michel; members of the government; and all dignitaries and press attending the 2013 edition of the carnival to thank Mauritius for being present and for displaying solidarity within the Vanilla Islands. Minister Alain St.Ange has also said to the press that he was thankful to Mr. Robert Desvaux, the Chairman of the MTPA, for sending the Mauritius delegation to the carnival in Seychelles.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
