On February 10, Frankfurt Airport is celebrating yet another New Year: that is when the Year of the Water Snake begins in the Chinese lunar-based calendar. Chinese wisdom holds that the year will be a good one for monetary affairs. So it makes complete sense to give away chocolate coins and vouchers as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
All passengers flying to or from China on that day will receive a special one-euro coin at the gate. Itโs made of chocolate and will be presented inside a little red bag bearing a Chinese character that means โmay your wealth grow.โ Frankfurt Airportโs employees will also wish them the same – in Chinese, of course. The airport has had 14,000 of the sweet coins minted.
โChinese Personal Shoppersโ will also help passengers prosper at Frankfurt Airport. Throughout the month of February, these shopping assistants – whose number has meanwhile grown to three – will give passengers from China a red envelope. They contain discount vouchers that let them save up to 205 euros while shopping in the duty free shops in the terminals.
Accounting for around a million passengers a year, China is an increasingly important market for Frankfurt Airport. The Chinese New Year celebrations are part of the โGreat to have you here!โ service program with which the airport is introducing a wide range of improvements to make it even easier and more convenient for passengers to depart from and transfer at Germanyโs largest aviation hub. In 2012, Frankfurt Airport welcomed more than 57 million passengers.
