Santa Cruz Islands rocked by 3 quakes

The US Geological Survey reported a strong 8.0-magnitude quake struck the Santa Cruz Islands in the South Pacific today February 6, 2013 at 01:12:23 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). Eleven minutes later, it was struck by a 6.4 quake, followed a half-hour later by a 6.6 earthquake.

According to the report, the quake was located 347 km (215 miles) E (96 degrees) of Kira Kira, Solomon Islands; 580 km (361 miles) ESE (105 degrees) of Honiara, Solomon Islands; and 1,963 km (1,220 miles) E (96 degrees) of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Fiji, Kiribati, Wallis, and Futuna.
