GREEN, Ohio – 2012 was an amazing year for the little airport that could! Records were busted at every level. Not only was it the busiest year in our history, 2012 marked our third consecutive record-breaking year. We also welcomed Southwest Airlines to the CAK family of airlines. A total of 1,838,083 Customers traveled to and from Akron-Canton besting 2011 by more than 173,686 people โ€“ a 10.4 percent increase. Additionally, the month of December 2012 was also a record breaker, with more than 173,686 total passengers, up 5 percent compared to the same month last year. December also marks our 21st consecutive monthly increase.

“By every standard, 2012 was incredible for CAK,” said Rick McQueen, president and CEO. “A double digit increase in traffic and welcoming Southwest make the year particularly memorable. Plus, we are optimistic about our future. We offer the lowest average airfare in the state and a relaxing airport experience. Customers come from all over the region for that combination and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

Every carrier saw an increase in total passengers for the year including Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways, (now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines) with 807,911 passengers, a 10 percent increase; Delta carrying 353,583, a nine percent increase; US Airways carrying 267,517, an 11 percent increase; Frontier Airlines grew seven percent with 199,400 passengers; and United Express, carried 83,962 passengers for the year, a one percent increase.
