German Theatrical Festival a leading series of cultural and tourism events in Tashkent

PAKISTAN (eTN) – The month of November is always considered a month of events for performing arts and indoor events, and the festivities in Tashkent and Uzbekistan becomes a hub of such activities. The Tashkent Tourism Festival that started on October 31 and ended on November 2 was the starter of such cultural activities. A series of activities are being observed in Tashkent including the most important German Theatrical Festival.

Now the German Embassy in Tashkent is holding a Theatrical Festival at the Youth Theatre of Uzbekistan in Tashkent that will continue from November 24 and 25. German-speaking theatrical groups, partners of educational initiatives such as “Schools – partners of future,” and two universities are attending this festival. The idea behind this festival is to provide a touch of German language and literature to those students who are teaching German language, and students of schools and universities, who study German language, will receive motivation for intensive study of German language and literature.

Students are performing German dramas and plays, and different German institutions, including groups from Margilan and the German school of Ferghana and Academic Lyceum from Urgench will present their plays. The next day, the Uzbek State World Languages University and State University will perform their plays. All plays will be in German. The event is directed at students with good German language skills. The festival is aimed at stimulating the study of German language among students. Entrance is free.

The Embassy of Germany in Uzbekistan is very active in organizing a lot of cultural activities all over Uzbekistan, and the month of November is full of such cultural activities arranged by the German Embassy. The events include sports activities at sport colleges in Nukus and Muynak; also classic concerts and master classes involving violinist, Ken Schumann, from Germany; and Uzbek pianist Maria Ahadjanova.

Concerts took place in Urgench (November 16), in Khiva (November 17), and in Nukus (November 19). The works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Jeno Hubay, and Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy were played.

Young German violinist, Ken Schumann, once visited Uzbekistan in 2009 and gave a concert and master class at Uzbek State Conservatoire of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. Bron Zahar Nuhimovich was his violin teacher in Cologne, and Thomas Brandis in Lubeck. Ken Schumann arranged master classes both in Germany and abroad. Ken is a frequent winner of national and international contests. He performed solo concerts at various grand scenes, especially in Cologne Philharmonic, in NHK hall in Osaka (Japan), at Performing Arts Center in Tel-Aviv (Israel), and in the theater of Champs Elysee in Paris. He also performed together with the Israel Chamber Orchestra, Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Small Symphony Orchestra of Cologne, Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra, Youth Chamber Orchestra of North Rhine Westphalia, Orchestra Collegium Musicum University of Bonn, Bonn Chamber Orchestra, and Hasse Hamburg Orchestra.

Meanwhile, the Tashkent Museum of Applied Art hosted a presentation of the colored illustrated album “Masterpieces of Applied Art of Uzbekistan.” The album describes different kinds of Uzbek applied art such as embroidery, ceramics, woodcarving, carpet weaving, golden stitch, etc. It also provides information on schools in every kind of folk art, as well as craftsmen and their products. The album is published in three languages: Uzbek, Russian, and English. The album author is Nargiza Talipova, the Director of the Museum of Applied Arts of Uzbekistan. N. Talipova is the author of a number of scientific publications and books dedicated to the problems of preservation and development of the traditions of Uzbek applied art.

The Uzbek media reported that she was awarded with the Badge of Honorโ€™s “20th Anniversary of Independence of Uzbekistan,” Silver Medal of the Academy of Art of Uzbekistan, and Honorary Diploma “For Contribution to Preservation and Popularization of Folk Decorative and Applied Art of Uzbekistan,โ€ founded by the Ministry of Culture and Sport Affairs, Fund Forum of Culture and Arts of Uzbekistan, UNESCO, and Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.

Another event, the “Bazar-Art” fair, started on Saturday in Tashkent that is arranged by the “IJOD” Association of artists, art critics, and craftsmen of Uzbekistan. Around 150 craftsmen and women from all over Uzbekistan will bring handmade items and clothing to the event. The three-day event will offer a variety of exquisite crafts of unique cultural legacy of Uzbekistan, and will include workshops.

The exhibition will be closed on November 26, 2012, and the Chairperson of the Trustee Council of Fund Forum and project author, Gulnara Karimova, will hand over awards to craftsmen and award laureates.

Bazar-Art is one of the vivid events in the cultural life of the capital and has been held for the last 11 years, which takes place in the Center of National Arts of the Fund Forum twice a year. The exhibition gathers the best masters of an applied art from all parts of the country, among them are representatives of artists’ families and young craftsmen. The project is aimed at discovering the creative potential in modern applied arts, introducing the wider public with the most interesting trends in this field, supporting creative dynasties and talented craftsmen as well as preserving and enhancing the national heritage.

Moreover, during the three-day fair, the participants with an interest in traditional art will have the opportunity to attend workshops to be led by Uzbek masters representing various traditional crafts. The program of the fair is as follows:

Bazar-Art has been held twice a year – in the spring and autumn – since 2007. The event is attended by about 150 craftsmen from all regions of Uzbekistan. Within the project, craftsmen receive grants to develop applied art. Since 2007, 6 grants for 24 million soums were handed over.
