Seychelles increases visibility across the British Isles

The Seychelles islands got an unprecedented level of press never seen before at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London last week.

The Seychelles islands got an unprecedented level of press never seen before at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London last week. This has helped to further increase the visibility of the islands right across the British Isles.

The Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, and the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Elsia Grandcourt, gave over a dozen interviews between them during the four days of exhibition.

The most notable ones were a series of radio interviews that were pre-recorded by media company 4media on World Responsible Tourism Day on Wednesday, November 7, in which Minister St.Ange spoke of the highlights of a Seychelles holiday and also why the country is continuing to invest efforts towards a sustainable tourism.

The company works with over 80 radio stations in Europe, including the BBC stations, and the interviews were to be broadcast at different times and on different stations during the day on Wednesday. During the same interviews, Minister St.Ange also went live on Radio Scully of Scilly Islands to explain why Seychelles is now among the most exciting destinations of the world. A third interview was also recorded for Black Diamond Radio of Scotland. The Minister was also interviewed by Adfero news for a recording to be posted on their website.

Minister St Ange, who had been on a working visit in Ireland with his delegation on their way to WTM 2012, also answered questions from Irish TV โ€“ Unravel Travel TV โ€“ to give a further boost to promotion efforts to open up the Irish market.

There was also interest in the events of Seychelles as the Info on Scuba Diving website based in UK also interviewed the Minister on the upcoming Seychelles Festival of the Sea, the SUBIOS event, which the presenter would be attending, as well as the other events of next year, notably the carnival. The Seychelles Minister took the opportunity to speak of the cultural diversity of the destination and invite more nations to take part in the annual Carnival International de Victoria.

A number of publications also lined up for interviews with both the Minister and the Tourism CEO, including TTG Luxury, the WTM Press, Soca News, as well as others extending well beyond the borders of UK, such as from Sri Lanka, France, and Serbia.

Speaking about this major press interest in the destination, Minister St.Ange reiterated that this yearโ€™s WTM was one of the best both in terms of meetings and interviews by the press.

โ€œWe may be a small destination, but the press still finds a lot to report on us, and I am amazed by this extraordinary level of interest. They want to know everything from what the destination offers, air access, how they can spend their holiday once they are on the ground, but most importantly, how is Seychelles different from its competitors,โ€ Minister St.Ange explained.

The Minister also noted that with the absence of non-direct flights between London and Seychelles, British travelers needed to know what other options were today available to them especially at a time when the destination is said to be more accessible than never before.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalitoin of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
