Seychelles’ 27th edition of its Festival Kreol officially opened with a spectacular show enthralling the crowd into a colorful ceremony of “Creole myth and mystical characters.” The 45-minute show, the mastermind of Raymond Clarisse and Eudoxie Labiche Harvey, impressed the spectators and gathered media.

In his speech to officially declare opened the 2012 “Festival Kreol,” Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange said that Seychelles is proud in the role it played in the preservation of its culture.

“For Seychelles, this wasn’t just a strategic decision, but it was a fundamental decision to consolidate our identity. We must admit that when the world was advocating for unity within states, the Creole-speaking countries were already unified. This has been our greatest success which should be proudly spelled out to the world,” Minister St.Ange said.

Minister St.Ange said that Seychelles remains committed in making its “Festival Kreol” an annual event.

“This year, we are celebrating the 27th edition of this festival. For the first time ever, it is being organized by the new Ministry of Tourism and Culture created by the President of the Republic, Mr. James Michel. We are using the synergy between tourism and culture to rejuvenate this festival. President James Michel said that without culture, Seychelles will not be able to consolidate the tourism industry, the industry that remains the pillar of Seychelles’ economy. It is for this reason that the time has come for the ‘Festival Kreol’ to change gears, to consolidate the spirit of working together with the Creole-speaking world. Every Seychellois, and everyone from the Creole-speaking sorld should see themselves in this new vision,” Minister St. Ange added.

In the presence of the Seychelles President, Mr. James Michel, and governmental dignitaries, Minister St.Ange extended his utmost appreciation for the sponsors and friends of the island’s “Festival Kreol” for supporting this event. His special thanks went to Afren, “Festival Kreol’s” biggest sponsor and also exclusive sponsor of the opening ceremony. Mr. Galib Virani of Afren, the gold sponsor of the 2012 Seychelles “Festival Kreol” presented his check to the Minister during the ceremony.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
