HARARE, Zimbabwe – During a ceremony held on Thursday, the 5th World Travel and Tourism Africa Fair (Sanganai/Hlanganani) officially opened in Harare, Zimbabwe, with the motto of “Where the World Meets Africa.”
The four-day event, which is being held in the Rainbow Towers, Harare’s luxury hotel and the Harare International Conference Center, has brought together exhibitors, buyers, investors, and suppliers of tourism services from around the world, giving them all a great opportunity to meet with each other, network, establish business partnerships, market their products and services, and interact with the media.
A number of Zimbabwean officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Chief Executive Karikoga Kaseke, attended the opening ceremony.
During the opening ceremony, Prof. Mutambara gave a speech in which he said that the purpose of the fair is to promote the tourism industry in Africa, adding that the World Travel and Tourism Africa Fair is not an exclusive Zimbabwean event, but it is a pan-African effort.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said that the tourist industry is a key economic sector which can create jobs for the African people and help stimulate economic growth.
On the first day of the event, the Tehran Times reporter visited a number of exhibition stands, including the stands of the Culture Center of the Iranian Embassy in Harare, the Clinic of Red Crescent Society of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Zimbabwe, Masvingo, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls publicity associations, the Meikles Hotel, Embassy of Brazil, Shearwater Adventures, Cresta Hospitality, Ethiopian Airlines, African Bush Camps, and Joel Travel and Tours.
The Zimbabwean exhibitors told the Tehran Times reporter that they are keen to cooperate and sign agreements with Iranian travel agencies and the relevant Iranian state agencies and provide Iranian travelers with special services at reduced prices.
Zimbabwe, which enjoys a rich cultural history, is a major tourist destination in Southern Africa and is proud of its many prime tourist destinations such as the majestic Victoria Falls, pristine wildlife and nature reserves, the mythical Lake Kariba, the mighty Zambezi River, Great Zimbabwe ruins, and the mystic of the Eastern Highlands.
