SCTA President inaugurates Leave No Trace website

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of SCTA (Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities), inaugurated the website of the “Leave No Trace” program on Sunday, October

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of SCTA (Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities), inaugurated the website of the “Leave No Trace” program on Sunday, October 7, during the quarterly meeting of the SCTA at the Commission’s headquarters in Riyadh.

The website is available in two languages, Arabic and English, and it is constantly updated with news and “Leave No Trace” events. Its purpose is to facilitate communication with people concerned with eco-tourism, raising awareness on the program’s principles on tourism and the environment, and recreation in the natural sites without damaging them.

The site also aims to communicate with program leaders to conduct training courses in addition to present program’s scientific material and various activities.
The “Leave No Trace” program is SCTA’s leading awareness programs in the field of eco-tourism. The program has carried out a number of activities in an attempt to raise awareness in the community on the preservation of environment in natural sites during tourist trips.

The program also aims to motivate tourists to observe proper behavior in natural locations and reject unsound practices towards the environment when on tours.

Since 2009, to date, over 60,000 persons benefited from the program through training tours and various activities carried out by the program. During this period, over 150 activities related to raising awareness on proper dealing with environment when on eco-tours were held.

The program has so far installed 51 signboards illustrating “Leave No Trace” principles along the roads leading to natural areas across the Kingdom. It has also distributed more than 17,000 leaflets on the program in 2012.
