Corinthia Hotels hosts World Tourism Award Honorees
Jorie Butler Kent, Vice Chairman of Abercrombie & Kent, and Founder & President, Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy; Oman Sail; and the city of New Orleans have been chosen as the 2012 World Tourism Awar
Jorie Butler Kent, Vice Chairman of Abercrombie & Kent, and Founder & President, Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy; Oman Sail; and the city of New Orleans have been chosen as the 2012 World Tourism Award Honorees. This prestigious award is presented annually at World Travel Market in London by Corinthia Hotels, together with co-sponsors American Express, International Herald Tribune, and Reed Travel Exhibitions. This year, celebrating its 15th anniversary, the World Tourism Awards will be presented on opening day of World Travel Market, Monday, November 5, 2012, at Excel Centre, London. The announcement was made by Mr. Simon Naudi, CEO of Corinthia Hotels at a Corinthia Hotels Press Breakfast at the Bryant Park Grill in New York City.
The three distinguished 2012 Honorees are being recognized for their commitment to sustainable tourism, contribution to tourism development, as well as transforming tourism to overcome challenging times.
The first award will honor Jorie Butler Kent, Vice Chairman of Abercrombie & Kent, and Founder and President of Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP), in recognition for “her development of Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy, and its commitment to sustainable tourism by sponsoring grassroots projects dedicated to preserving natural habitats, protecting wildlife, and promoting the welfare of indigenous communities throughout the world.”
The second award will honor Oman Sail, in recognition for “its contribution to tourism development through the sport of sailing to teach youth and empower women with valuable, transferable life skills, and instilling confidence; as well as rekindling Oman’s maritime heritage, raising the country’s global profile as a high-end tourist destination.”
The third award will honor The City of New Orleans, in recognition for “its extraordinary success in the transformation and rebirth of the tourism industry post-Katrina and in the wake of the DeepWater Horizon oil spill, spurring new economic growth and jobs, to make tourism New Orleans’ largest industry once again.”
The World Tourism Award itself is an exquisite Baccarat Crystal, “as spectacular as its meteoric namesake, the stunning clear crystal Shooting Star creation by David Tisdale for Baccaratcelebrates extraordinary vision and leadership.”
