Madame Tussauds Hollywood launches first-ever social media contest

HOLLYWOOD, Calif.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – Madame Tussauds Hollywood, the legendary wax museum, announced today the official kick off of its “Social Media Figure Contest” during an opening event for Social Media Week Los Angeles, a worldwide event exploring the social, cultural and economic impact of social media. For the first time ever, consumers will have the opportunity to select who they would like to see immortalized in wax for 2013 via social media.

Fans can vote at Madame Tussauds Hollywood’s Facebook Page for nominated celebrities including Ryan Gosling, Anne Hathaway, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Hudson and Sofia Vergara. At the end of a three-month campaign, Madame Tussauds Hollywood will announce the figure to premiere in June 2013.

Madame Tussauds Hollywood offers its visitors a truly unique opportunity to interact with high quality wax figures of Hollywood’s most notable celebrities and iconic movie figures. This consumer contest marks a significant social media step for the brand as decisions on wax figures for each year are based off of visitor recommendations, but have never been decided solely through the digital fan world of social media. The “Social Media Figure Contest” will allow fans from around the world to show their support of their favorite nominated celebrity and engage with Madame Tussauds Hollywood over social media.

“This is an exciting time for Madame Tussauds Hollywood to be able to engage directly with our consumers,” said Colin Thomas, General Manager of Madame Tussauds Hollywood. “Our figures are chosen to honor and celebrate the most influential talent on a global level. We are thrilled to launch this campaign at Social Media Week Los Angeles and have the opportunity to allow our network and the large digital fan base to choose who they would like to see immortalized in wax.”

The winning figure, which will be one of four new figures launching in the upcoming year, will join the ranks of Hollywood legends including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, as well as Hollywood’s new guard of icons such as Lady Gaga, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and most recently Betty White.
