LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe announced re-certification of the Bentota Beach Hotel in Bentota, Sri Lanka. For the past few years, this property has demonstrated leadership and innovation in the fields of operational efficiency and social responsibility.

โ€œBentota Beach Hotel actively pursues the Green Globe certificate in its efforts of becoming a true โ€˜green resort,โ€™โ€ said Sanjeeva Perera, General Manager at the Bentota Beach Hotel, โ€œOur achievement would not be possible without our staff membersโ€™ ongoing commitment to protect, preserve, and nurture the environment, and improve the eco-friendly operation of our resort. It gives us great pleasure to earn the prestigious Green Globe Re-Certification.โ€

Bentota Beach Hotel developed and implemented a long-term environmental management system to continually reduce the usage of water, energy, and production and packaging materials. A special Green Team facilitates and maintains sustainability initiatives in accordance with the companyโ€™s vision and pledge, โ€œI Will Be Green.โ€ Energy goals are strictly monitored and benchmarked, and the property recently introduced solar power for the kitchen pantry, spa, and Eco House (used for staff accommodation and training). Guests are invited to join local environmental and community-related activities, such as beach cleaning and tree planting at the shores, and the hotel offers โ€œSave Resources for a better Futureโ€ information leaflets to promote awareness.

Eco-friendly products are being purchased where possible, and local suppliers within a 60-mile radius are given preference. The companyโ€™s packaging minimization policy requests suppliers to remove all packaging items at time of delivery. Bentota Beach Hotel has a proper waste sorting system in place; composting is done within the complex and nurtures the resortโ€™s own green garden. All garden waste is shredded and donated to the community. In addition, the hotel does not discharge waste water into the Bentota River, but to a common sewage treatment plant.

Green Globe Certificationโ€™s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: โ€œWe are extremely pleased to award the re-certification to the Bentota Beach Hotel in Bentota, Sri Lanka. This property shows a very high compliance rate against our Green Globe Certification sustainability criteria. The hotel is committed to educate all their business associates and suppliers to enhance awareness of the importance in integrating environmental protection into their daily routine.โ€ For more information, please watch The Bentota Beach Hotel video on Green Globeโ€™s youtube channel: mygreenglobe.com.
