United Airlines and Hispanic education organization announce video contest

CHICAGO, Ill. ‒ United Airlines and the Adelante! U.S.

CHICAGO, Ill. ‒ United Airlines and the Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund today announced the 2012 video contest, “Destino: Latinoamérica” (“Destination: Latin America”), for Hispanic college students.

Participants submit a video highlighting five reasons to visit one of the Latin American or Caribbean countries where United flies. The winning student will receive six tickets good for travel to a United destination in the continental U.S., Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico.

“We are pleased to continue our support of Adelante! and its efforts to prepare Latino college students for careers in Corporate America,” said John Slater, United’s vice president of sales-Americas. “‘Destino: Latinoamérica’ gives students a creative way to learn more about Latin America and the Caribbean, which will help them as they compete for jobs in a global marketplace.” United flies to 72 destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean.

United also contributes airline tickets for 16 Adelante! scholarship recipients nationwide to attend the organization’s Leadership Institute in San Antonio in October.
Deadline for submitting videos is Oct. 5. Videos may be in English or Spanish and should not exceed three minutes in length. A committee of United and Adelante! representatives will select finalist videos based on clarity of expression, originality and creativity. Finalists’ videos will be posted on Adelante!’s Facebook page, where the public may vote for the winner from Oct.15-19. The winning video, which will be announced at Adelante!’s Leadership Institute gala on Oct. 29, will be posted on Adelante!’s website, Facebook and YouTube sites.

“The ‘Destino: Latinoamérica’ video contest provides students with a great opportunity to showcase the history, culture, and people that are part of the vast Latino spectrum in the Americas,” said Jay Zambrano, executive director, Adelante! U. S. Education Leadership Fund. “Travel can lead to a better understanding of the world and be a life-changing experience.”

Hispanic college students with at least a 3.0 GPA and who are legal U.S. residents may participate. DVDs should be sent with supporting documents (name, address, telephone, college, major, date of graduation, proof of enrollment and GPA) to Sarah Ramos, Program Coordinator, Adelante! U.S. Education Leadership Fund, “Destino: Latinoamérica,” 8415 Datapoint Drive, Ste. 400, San Antonio, Texas 78229.
