The Edinburgh Dungeon is seeking volunteers with a talent for the Dark Arts to help the last survivor of an infamous Scottish witch hunt to revive her coven.
From the October 11 to 31 the Dungeon will be transformed into the Home of Halloweโen โ a place of magic, potions and spells.
A special show is being created based on the notorious North Berwick Witch Trials of 1590-2. The trials took place when black magic was blamed for a sea storm which threatened to sink the ship carrying King James VI and his wife, Princess Anne of Denmark, back to Scotland.
The persecutions were truly horrifying with suspects, accused of meeting with the Devil in a North Berwick kirkyard, tortured and executed in Edinburgh.
Johnny Campbell, Edinburgh Dungeons General Manager, said: โOur show has the sole survivor of the North Berwick coven searching for new witches to join her. Together they will weave the dark spells that are needed to bring back one of their leaders, Agnes Sampson, back from beyond the grave.
โIf they are successful they will have the power to wreak horrible revenge on Edinburgh, where they were so cruelly persecuted.
โThe Dungeon is always a scary place to visit, but for the second half of October it will be more sinister than ever as it becomes the true home of Halloweโen.โ
As well as the Wicked Witches show, visitors can brave Sawney Beanโs cannibal cave, come face to face with Burke and Hare, enter the Labyrinth of Lost Souls and test their nerve on the hair raising Extremis Drop Ride to Doom.
All the shows are performed by professional actors, feature great storytelling, special effects and costumes.
The Dungeon, right next to Waverley Station in Edinburghโs Market Street, makes a brilliant outing for adults and older children of eight and above.
