A former employee of now defunct MDLR airline allegedly committed suicide in her north-west Delhi residence, with police today registering a case against a Haryana minister, who is the owner, on charges of abetment of suicide.

Police registered a case against Gopal Handa, the owner of the airline and Minister of State for Home Affairs in Haryana government, and manager Aruna Sharma for abetting her suicide.

Geetika Sharma, who had quit the job recently, allegedly committed suicide at her Ashok Vihar residence last night as she was under depression as Kanda was understood to have been pressurising her to rejoin work, police said.

Gaurav, the brother of Geetika, alleged that she was being pressurised by Handa to rejoin work and threatened that she would not be allowed work anywhere else.

In the suicide note, police said, Geetika had allegedly held Handa responsible for her taking the extreme step.

Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda today landed in trouble as Delhi Police registered a case of abetment to suicide against him after a former woman employee of his now defunct airline MDLR allegedly took her life accusing harassment by him.

23-year-old former air hostess Geetika Sharma, who quit Kanda’s company recently, allegedly took the extreme step at her Ashok Vihar residence in north-west Delhi residence, apparently depressed over continuing mental harassment allegedly by the minister.

Police received a call about the incident at 9:20 AM and found her hanging after entering her room through the ventilator as it was locked from inside. She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared DOA.

46-year-old Kanda, an independent MLA from Sirsa, is the Minister of State for Home Affairs in Haryana.

It is alleged that Kanda was pressurising Sharma to rejoin his firm, which she had left recently to pursue MBA, a senior police official said.

“We have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Kanda and Aruna Chaddha, a manager with Kanda’s firm,” P Karunakaran, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West), said.

In her suicide note, Geetika had claimed that Kanda was torturing her mentally after she left her job in his company and was pressurising her to join his firm again. “She has

written about the Haryana Minister in the suicide note.

“It was written that they have broken her trust. They have cheated her. Due to these things, she was committing suicide. She also named Chaddha in the letter,” Karunakaran said. Kanda or Chaddha could not be contacted for their comments.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said in Kolkata that he does not have details about the incident. “I have come to know about this. I am finding out details, let me check the facts,” Hooda said.

INLD president and former Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala demanded immediate arrest of Kanda and dismissal of the state government.
