VLADIVOSTOK, Russia – The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) tourism ministers met Monday in Khabarovsk city, Russia, to discuss the sustainable development of the tourism industry, local media reported.

During the two-day APEC tourism ministerial meeting, the ministers will continue their joint work and discuss the achievements in tourism development, including tourism as the driver of growth and prosperity in the region, comprehensive growth in the tourism industry, the sustainability of the tourism business and tourist destinations, efficiency and regional economic integration, according to the Interfax news agency.

Interfax said APEC nations shared a common goal of improving the quality of tourism service, despite the disparity among their tourism development level.

The tourism industry is crucial for both the development and cooperation of regional economies, as a sustainable development of the tourism industry is conducive to economic growth, employment, investment, poverty reduction and environmental protection.
