Former Seychelles President will represent the African Union at upcoming Egyptian Presidential Election

Seychelles former President James R. Mancham is to represent the African Union Commission in Egypt on the occasion of the Presidential Election scheduled for May 23 and 24, 2012.

The invitation for former President Mancham was extended by HE Mr. Jean Ping, Chairperson of the African Union. “Given your vast experience and commitment to the strengthening of democracy and peace in the continent, I would like to kindly request you to witness, on behalf of the AU, the Egyptian Presidential Elections,” Mr. Jean Ping said in his letter of invitation to President Mancham dated Addis Ababa, May 7, 2012.

The invitation to the Former President has the full blessing of the Seychelles government, whose Ministry of Foreign Affairs has agreed to the appointment of Conrad Mederic, Parliament Officer of the Seychelles Embassy in South Africa, to assist the former President on the mission.

Former President Mancham, who is at the moment in the USA after participating in a “Think Tank” gathering at Hoover’s Institute of War, Revolution, and Peace at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and who is expected to arrive in Cairo on Sunday, May 20, said, “I am deeply honored to be asked by the African Union Commission to represent the AU as a witness of the forthcoming Presidential Elections in Egypt, which is an historical event for Egypt and Africa.”
