NIKI, the Austrian airline belonging to the airberlin group, is expanding its international route network with a new connection from Vienna to Florence. NIKI will fly to the Tuscan city six times a week.

Susanna Sciacovelli, General Director of airberlin in Italy, said the following on Monday at a joint press conference on the inaugural flight in Florence: “The expansion of our partner NIKIโ€™s network with the new Florence-Vienna connection gives passengers of the airberlin group more travel options to Italy. The new route is not only an important step for NIKI, but also broadens and strengthens the airberllin groupโ€™s entire route network to and from Italy.”

Christian Lesjak, Managing Director of NIKI, added: “The development of the Vienna hub within the airberlin group means more transfer connections, more frequencies and better departure times for airberlin and NIKI passengers. Via the Vienna hub, travellers from Florence can reach many more destinations such as Paris, Copenhagen or eastern European cities.โ€

The airberlin group flies to a total of 14 destinations in Italy. In addition to Milan and Rome, Florence is the fifth destination NIKI offers from Austria to Italy.

NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH was fully consolidated into the airberlin group in 2010. Over the course of the integration, NIKIโ€™s foundation at the Vienna International Airport was defined as a hub – just like Berlin, Dusseldorf and Palma de Mallorca – with a geographical emphasis on transport in the south-eastern European region.
