Cash-strapped tourists to bid for hotel rooms

A world-first website allowing tourists to name their price for hotel rooms aims to help more stressed Aussies go on holiday.

Cut-price accommodation website Ubid4rooms.com allows travellers to make their own offers for hotel rooms around Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu at prices more than one third lower than advertised last-minute rates, website founder Gary Berman said.

Cut-price accommodation website Ubid4rooms.com allows travellers to make their own offers for hotel rooms around Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu at prices more than one third lower than advertised last-minute rates, website founder Gary Berman said.

“I know increasing fuel, food and interest costs are hurting millions of Australians,” Mr Berman said.

“More than ever this is a time when many of us need a break but can’t afford one.”

The e-Bay-like system, launched in November 2007, allows people to offer a bid for a room to a hotel which will confirm whether the offer is accepted within three hours.

Mr Berman said the system allowed Australians to take holidays by suggesting rates within their budgets.
