Spanning 87,000 square feet, The Westin Maui’s pool playground is “wowing” guests of all ages. Adults and children now have their own spots for soaking, swimming and playing while a newly designed family pool and two connecting pools with swim-through waterfalls and a hidden Jacuzzi provide fun and relaxation for everyone. Lush landscaping, scenic walkways, and expanded lounge and seating areas surround the resort’s luxury swimming spots, creating the ultimate resort sanctuary.

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa’s USD$100 million-plus transformation heads into its final phase following the recent completion of upgrades and additions to the luxury resort’s pool playground that includes six stunning pools overlooking Kaʻanapali Beach.

“Guests are loving our newly renovated pools and added water features,” noted Gregg Lundberg, general manager of The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kaʻanapali.

“Our pool experience has always been exceptional, and now with the enhancements, our expansive pool area – which we’ve renamed Kawaiola Pools (living waters) – has been reimagined as an epicenter of well-being.”

“The theme of our three-phase resort transformation is Holomua, which means improvement, progress and success in the Hawaiian language,” explained Lundberg. “It encompasses all of the exciting changes to our physical space and guest offerings that began in 2018 when we embarked on our journey to redefine the meaning of ‘personal oasis.’”

When the transformation is completed this summer, the 12-acre beachfront property adjacent to Whalers Village will offer a guest experience unlike any other in Kaʻanapali. A luxury guest tower and new island-inspired dining options that include a 200-seat oceanfront pool bar top the list of exciting changes coming to the resort.

Iconic Pools Get a Makeover

In the meantime, guests are swooning over the newly added adults-only pool deck that features a whirlpool and an infinity edge pool with uninterrupted views of the Pacific and the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai. Scattered across the deck and pool area are dew-drop shaped cabanas that were exclusively designed for the resort. Made from bamboo and dark wood, the cabanas add to the intimate, serene setting. The nearby Hale ‘A (House of Sparkle) adult pool bar is a sophisticated chill space serving handcrafted cocktails and artisanal bites. It’s also the perfect spot to catch breathtaking sunsets or spot humpbacks during whale watching season.

During the day, while parents soak up the sun, the little ones can keep cool in the new interactive Keiki Splash Zone and family pool area. A dozen green spray jets sprout from the ground turning sun time into fun time. A mini water slide, waterfall and kids pool offer hours of playtime.

Adults and older children seeking their own water adventure can head straight to The Westin Maui’s iconic water slide that twirls and plunges 270 feet into the lobby-level pool area. Upgrades to the giant slide make the water ride with spins even more thrilling.

Earlier phases of the transformation focused on creating a welcoming arrival environment for guests. They included a new porte cochere, refreshed main lobby outfitted with new furnishings, signature Westin green living walls that flank the entrance and new retail spaces. A spacious on-site guest parking facility with valet parking was also added.

Redefining the Guest Experience

“The changes taking place at The Westin Maui are very exciting, but the transformation extends beyond physical enhancements. We’re redefining the entire experience for guests,” stated Lundberg.

The focus on wellness and sense of place are reflected in various aspects of the renovation. The rich culture of Maui and Hawaii’s famed Aloha spirit served as inspiration for everything, from innovative design details to cultural offerings. Resort areas were renamed with historic and geographical place names while guest programs have a stronger focus on environmental sustainability and Hawaiian culture.

“The Westin brand is known for its focus on wellness and helping guests maintain their well-being while traveling. Layered on top of this is our commitment to deliver genuine Hawaiian experiences that offer guests a deeper relationship to the natural elements around us – the land, the water and the stars,” added Lundberg. “This has guided our transformation. We want our guests to leave our resort feeling like better versions of themselves.”
