Sir James Mancham, the first President of the Republic of Seychelles who is credited to have launched the island’s tourism industry in the early 70s, paid a courtesy call on Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles new Minister for Tourism and Culture, to congratulate the new minister on his appointment and to discuss tourism and the need to maintain visibility of the islands across the world.

Sir James Mancham was accompanied for the visit at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture by Alexander Mancham, the Assistant Editor and the Ambassador-at-Large for VIOAS, the bi-monthly magazine, Voice of the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea.

Discussions between Sir James Mancham and Minister Alain St.Ange centered on the ongoing mission by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the island’s Tourism Board to continue to increase visibility of Seychelles. The importance of the magazine, VIOAS, in this regard was also discussed, and Minister St.Ange acknowledged this support and accepted to use copies of the magazine as part the documentation he takes with him on his different overseas missions.

Minister Alain St.Ange has expressed his appreciation of the visit by Sir James Mancham and has thanked him for all his support and encouragement. Minister St.Ange also presented Sir James Mancham with a copy of the book, Seychelles Enters the World of Carnivals, published after the first edition of the island’s new annual carnivals. The first pages of this carnival book documents the two carnivals (1972 and 1976) successfully organized by Sir James himself as the then Chief Minister and President to position Seychelles as a new tourism destination.
