Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and the First Lady Clio have completed their state visit to Jordan. During their stay in the country, they visited the Citadel in downtown Amman, considered the cityโ€™s most significant archaeological attraction, and the ancient rose-red city of Petra, which celebrates the 200th anniversary of its rediscovery this year.

HE the Minister of Tourism & Antiquities Nayef Al-Fayez accompanied Napolitano and his wife, along with an Italian delegation. The president met and spoke with Italian tourists at the site.

Earlier on Monday, the Italian First Lady visited the Italian hospital in the capital and inaugurated the newly-established surgery, dialysis, radiology, and patient services departments. During her visit, she toured the hospital and was briefed on its services.

Queen Rania also accompanied the First Lady on a visit and tour of the Jordan River Foundation to familiarize her about its work.

Jordan received 47,000 Italian visitors in 2011, with the purpose of learning about Jordanโ€™s history & culture, religious significance, and for leisure and wellness.
