The friendship and togetherness between La Reunion and Seychelles was again evident at ITB 2012 when the IRT (Ile Reunion Tourisme) shared the visit to their stand by the Kiel handball team, today’s handball champions.
La Reunion Tourisme has personal contacts with the handball champions because of Daniel Narcisse, an island boy from La Reunion, who is one of the key players of the Kiel handball team of Germany.
It was La Reunion Tourism who invited the Kiel handball team to visit the Seychelles stand at ITB and for them to pose for the press, following them in front of the large beach scene that sits as the backdrop of the Seychelles tourism trade fair stands.
Mr. Azeddine Bouali, the elected representative of La Reunion, accompanied the Kiel handball team to the Seychelles stand at ITB 2012.
“This is an excellent example of Vanilla Islands’cooperation and partnership. La Reunion was a co-host of the Carnaval International de Victoria, the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands Carnival that was held in early March in the Seychelles, and we are now both committed to work together whenever possible. Both La Reunion and Seychelles are hoping to see the other islands in the Indian Ocean join in the spirit of togetherness that today binds Seychelles and La Reunion,” said Alain St.Ange, the newly-appointed Seychelles Minister of Tourism and Culture.
Seychelles and La Reunion have, for the first time, removed the wall of separation between the stands of the two islands at ITB. It was remarkable at this year’s ITB to have a free flow from one stand to the other, and this helped demonstrate the concept of working together between the two Vanilla Islands of the Indian Ocean.
