New Delhi – Global broadcasting major BBC has signed a deal with the Ministry of Tourism for promotion of the country’s tourist spots, for which the UK-based firm will be creating contents for the first time.
“We have had a relationship with the Ministry of Tourism dating back to 2005. The new deal takes a step further in the sense that we will be running a series named Travel India, the content for which has been created by us.
This is the first time we are doing such a thing for the ministry,” BBC Regional Director Advertising Sales, South Asia Seema Mohapatra told PTI.
Asked about the size of the deal, she declined to comment but said : “it is sizeable”.
The six part, half-hour series hosted by well known cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, will run till the end of March next year, she added.
This programme will be telecast on BBC World News across Europe, Asia Pacific, South Asia, the Middle East and would also be available on BBC’s partner UK TV, Mohapatra said.
Besides, BBC is also making 30-seconds short films for the ministry, which will be aired on its channels.
“The longer version of these will be available to the ministry whenever they need,” Mohapatra said.
Moreover, there will be in-flight advertisements for the ministry on BBC World News in carriers such as United Airlines and US Airways, she added.
BBC’s Travel India programme will include journeys to spiritual spots, places of scenic beauty, and urban centers for business in conjunction with underdeveloped rural centers.
Apart from this, the broadcaster is also making five-minutes corporate films on ayurveda and wellness, she added.
