A US tourist who went missing after visiting Facebook friends in Wales has been found safe and well, say police.

Kathryn ‘Kate’ Barnes, 32, was located in the Mount Pleasant area of Swansea on Friday said South Wales Police.

Ms Barnes arrived in the UK from Ohio in November and had been last seen on 4 January near Swansea train station.

Her family and close friends issued appeals for information on her whereabouts, saying they were very concerned about her disappearance.

South Wales Police revealed that she had gone missing on 13 January.

Officers said she had previously stayed at addresses in Swansea, Pontardawe and Milford Haven.

At the time her mother described her disappearance as “terrifying” and said her family was desperate to speak to her.

In a further appeal on 25 January, a friend who she planned to visit in Derbyshire, urged her to get in touch.
