Srilal Miththapala, a senior tourism professional and Ambassador from Sri Lanka for eTN, has been elected a Fellow of Institute of Hospitality, United Kingdom, the foremost professional body in the field of hospitality, leisure, and tourism, which has been in existence since the 1930s.

A qualified Chartered Electrical Engineer, Miththapala has over 30 years of experience in senior management positions and directorates in the mercantile sector, as well as in the tourism industry. He served in several senior capacities with the Confifi Group for 14 years, and then as Director/CEO of Serendib Leisure Management Limited for 10 years. He is the immediate past President of the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, and has also served on numerous national tourism institutions and committees.

Interestingly, Miththapala now has Fellowships from 2 radically different professional fields, namely hospitality and electrical engineering, having already been a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineering, UK, for several years now. Quite possibly, he could be the only qualified engineer, to aspire to such levels in the hospitality industry.

He also has serious interests in wildlife and the environment, and has been actively promoting Sri Lanka as an environmentally-sustainable tourism destination.

He is currently attached to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce as the Project Director of the EU-funded, SWITCH-Asia Greening Sri Lanka Hotels Project, and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of LAUGFS Leisure Limited, a fully-owned subsidiary of LAUGFS Gas PLC .
