WASHINGTON, D.C. – Norwegian Air Shuttle has announced the largest-ever aircraft purchase in Europe.

The total order is worth $22 billion and includes 122 Boeing 737 aircraft and 100 Airbus A320 planes.

Norwegian Air will start receiving the Boeing and Airbus planes in 2016. The budget airline may also buy an additional 50 Airbus A320neo planes.

The company has said that its decision to buy both Boeing and Airbus planes is aimed at ensuring “competition between two manufacturers.”

Norwegian Air Shuttle’s shares jumped 8.3% in reaction to the news of the deals.
