LONDON, England – AirAsia, the world’s best low cost airline for three consecutive years, celebrated its 10th Anniversary at the Kuala Lumpur Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) today, with various activities organized by the airline for the public to commemorate the special occasion.

The journey of connectivity for the airline started in 2001, with its first route from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu. As a commemoration of this first low cost connectivity between Peninsular and East Malaysia, AirAsia took a walk down memory lane today in a receiving ceremony for guests onboard flight AK5101 from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur in the early hours of this morning.

AirAsia Chairman, Dato’ Aziz Bakar was present to greet and thank all guests on the flight, who have made it possible for AirAsia to be where it is today. Special goodies commemorating the special moment was also distributed.

AirAsia Group CEO, Tan Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes said, “Today is a very special day, where we celebrate our 10th Anniversary. We would like to dedicate this special day to our guests, and everyone who have been supporting us since day one. It has been a really eventful journey. We’ve been through various challenges—bird flu, SARS, tsunamis, earthquakes, 9/11, floods, oil price credit crisis, civil unrest—and prevailed.

“We worked hard over the past 10 years to take AirAsia to celestial heights. With passion, creativity and commitment, we’ve achieved our dreams which others deemed impossible. Where others were skeptical, we believed. And after 10 years since our inception, we remain as the popular choice among travelers, and we will continue to provide the best for many years to come,” he added.

The LCCT was also transformed into a carnival with full fanfare, with various activities organized for the public to participate. They were served with spectacular ‘fire-eating’ and dance performances, plus interactive games where cool prizes presented to the winners.

There were also special appearances by announcers from hitz.fm, Sinar FM, THR Raaga & MY FM. The public was able to get up close and mingle with their favourite radio personalities, and receive AirAsia goodies and merchandises which were given away by the announcers.

The day was sealed by a cake cutting ceremony, graced by AirAsia Chairman Dato’ Aziz Bakar, Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, Deputy Group CEO Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani, AirAsia Indonesia CEO Dharmadi, AirAsia Philippines CEO Maan Hontiveros, AirAsia Member of the Board of Directors Dato’ Fam Lee Ee and the management team of AirAsia and AirAsia X.
