“We no longer want handouts, we want to promote Haiti,” declared last weekend the President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, specifying that the name of Haiti should no longer only be associated with “poverty and misery” and that he intended to promote Haiti as a vacation destination.

“We want to show the other part of Haiti that has never been shown to the world,” speaking of its culture, wealth and natural, cultural and historical sites… Martelly recalled that once investors are aware of the potential of the country, they feel comfortable enough to “come to Haiti and rebuild Haiti.”

“Tourism is a sector that can bring a lot of money, and we have lots of things to show to the world […] We have a very rich and diversified culture, we have beautiful sights, a historical past. We have the most beautiful coast” praised the President Martelly, adding that the tourism to his point of view is the best way for Haiti to breaks its dependency on foreign aid.

“I am the leader of a country who has been neglected for the last 200 years […] It is my responsibility to bring development to Haiti” added Martelly.

Last week as part of the forum “Invest in Haiti”, Marriott International has announced the construction of a hotel of 173 rooms in Port-au-Prince, and an agreement for the construction of the “Hotel des Artistes” near of Toussaint Louverture International Airport, with a capacity of 250 rooms, was signed.
