The next Lunar New Year in Vietnam, as known as Tet, will take place on January 23, 2012.

As this is a very sacred time, many Vietnamese enjoy those days with their families and/or have a vacation. Life in Vietnam proceeds at a different pace at that time of the year – especially for tourists.

Some tourist sites remain closed, and beach resorts and flights are usually very well booked in the weeks before and after Tet, so travelers should exercise flexibility and patience during this period.

Please also bear in mind that a travel visa should be applied for in time, as the immigration office and embassies abroad are closed for 1-2 weeks during this period, so plan ahead.

In addition, Vietnam Airlines sets stricter conditions for travel around the Tet festival. Change policies for flight tickets for travel between January 7 and February 7, 2012 will be strictly limited. It may be necessary to ticket within 1-2 days after booking, and charges for name changes and rebookings will be higher than usual.
