British High Commissioners in Seychelles and Mauritius, Matthew Forbes and Nick Leake, launched a new Facebook Group, www.facebook.com/ukinindianoceannetwork , covering Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, and the Comoros Islands, which will feature up-to-date information and advice from the High Commissions and the UK Foreign Office.
Aimed primarily at people living in the Indian Ocean region, it will highlight the latest news from the High Commissions and direct people to where they can find visa information and updates, passport information, details of British High Commission events, and information on local projects, policy initiatives, and funding announcements. People from overseas who are planning to live, travel, or work in these countries may also find it of interest, as it will highlight the latest travel advice and links to useful information. People are invited to lave feedback and comments on the page, but due to its public nature, individual cases or domestic political matters cannot be discussed.
Announcing the Facebook group, British High Commissioner to Seychelles, Matthew Forbes, said: “Increasingly, people are finding information online and communicating with one another via social networks. It makes sense if we’re serious about communicating what we do and helping people understand more about our work, that we join these networks. You can find us on Facebook as the ‘UK in Indian Ocean Network.'”
British High Commissioner to Mauritius, Nick Leake, added: “By creating this Facebook group, we hope to make it easier for people to find the information that they need and to understand more of what the two British High Commissions in the Indian Ocean do, and about our diplomatic activity in Madagascar and the Comoros. As an organization, the UK Foreign Office operates in about 170 countries, and tools such as Facebook help us to reach out and interact with our global audience.”
