TANZANIA (eTN) – Celebrating eleven years of the Charity Goat Race in Tanzania, British Airways (BA) has introduced special fares for its passengers flying Tanzania to London as the airline marks this yearโ€™s Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Race.

Launched eleven years ago through BA sponsorship, the annual Dar es Salaam charity goat race has become the airlineโ€™s annual event pulling big crowds of spectators and philanthropists.

Traditionally, the airline supports what has become one of Tanzaniaโ€™s premier social occasions by sponsoring the British Airwaysโ€™ Derby, one of the seven races that draws more than 3,000-strong crowds, and donates two tickets to London for the charity raffle.

โ€œThis is a significant year for us, as it was 80 years ago when our predecessor, Imperial Airways, pioneered its UK, Central African service terminating at Mwanza in Lake Victoria shores. To mark the anniversary and celebrate a wonderful, charitable event, weโ€™re also introducing some special fares to London,โ€ explained Saada Juma, British Airwaysโ€™ commercial manager in Tanzania.

Special fares are available from September 26 to October 17 this year.

The flight in a British Airways Boeing 767 takes just under 10 hours, considerably faster than the original Imperial Airways service, which had a scheduled traveling time of 10 days.

This past weekend, goat lovers and spectators witnessed the four-legged speedsters in the British Airways derby go like todayโ€™s Boeings and make plenty of money for the 13 charities community project charities in the city the goat race supports.

โ€œThe goat race is much more than a great event and a fun day out. The money it raises goes to smaller organizations, which do essential work but may struggle to secure corporate funding or grants,โ€ the BA Commercial Manager for Tanzania said.
