APEC event in Honolulu, Hawaii is drawing closer and there are many questions about what will be happening and how it will affect Waikīkī and the visitor experience during APEC Leaders’ Week in November.

While many details are unavailable due to security concerns, the United States Secret Service, which is the lead organization for security during Leaders’ Week, has been able to provide some answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

The following are two FAQs that were supplied by the United States Secret Service and posted to the APEC 2011 Hawai’i Host Committee website:

1. Will Waikīkī be closed during APEC Leaders Week?

No. Visitors and residents will be able to get in and out of Waikīkī during APEC Leaders’ Week. But people should anticipate some restrictions and plan accordingly. While an event of this size will cause inconveniences to the city, the Secret Service, working together with its law enforcement and public safety partners, will make every effort to anticipate and minimize those disruptions.

2. Will non-APEC visitors be able to get to their hotels during Leaders’ Week?

Yes. Non-APEC visitors will be able to travel to and from their hotels in Waikīkī. No hotels will be closed during APEC Leaders’ Week. There may be some traffic re-routing and screening during certain times, but the Secret Service, working together with its law enforcement and public safety partners, will make every effort to anticipate and minimize those disruptions.

Visitors encouraged to go to the APEC 2011 Hawai’i Host Committee website at www.apec2011hawaii.com for the complete FAQ.
