On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001, Seychelles President Michel has sent a letter to President Barack Obama of the United State of America expressing the renewed condolences and solidarity of the Seychellois people during this time.

The Seychelles President described the twin terror attacks as an attack on hopes shared as a community of nations, a heinous act forever etched in memory.

โ€œI strongly believe that this 10th anniversary should be an occasion for us to reflect… we should stay steadfast in pursuing what we believe in as a community of nations โ€“ respect for human life, justice, tolerance, pluralism, and democracy,โ€ said President Michel.

The Seychelles President also took this opportunity to thank the United States government for their commitment to combating international threats, especially their strong support in combating the threats of piracy Seychelles is currently faced with. He said:

โ€œSadly the world is still facing more ruthless forms of terrorism, and the manifestation of piracy off the coast of Somalia has given a new face and amplitude to international threats, which threaten the socio-economic fiber of the world; small island developing states like Seychelles have not been spared. Therefore, no country can stand alone in this fight. The onus is on every citizen and every country of the world to maintain peace and security.โ€

In addition to offering condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the attacks, the President also pledged the commitment of the people and government of Seychelles in always working to achieve global harmony as the only path to a better world.

โ€œFor all those who lost their lives on this dreadful day, may their friends and families find solace in the knowledge that we will always remember them, and let us be more determined than ever to honor their memory and continue to work for peace and development around the world,โ€ President Michel concluded.
