The new summer only service from Southampton Airport to Dijon in Eastern France is being extended by Eastern Airways until the end of October to meet demand.

The three times a week service was introduced by the UK regional airline in June this year and was due to operate until 30 September. However due to the popularity of the flights, services have been extended until 28 October 2011.

Services depart on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays with fares starting from ยฃ75 one way, including taxes.

On Mondays, flights depart Southampton at 12.50pm, arriving in Dijon at 3.40pm local time. Services leave Dijon at 11.30am and arrive in Southampton at 12.20pm local time.

Flights on Fridays take off from Southampton at 1.50pm, landing in Dijon at 4.40pm local time. Services leave Dijon at 12.30pm and arrive in Southampton at 1.20pm local time.

Sunday services leave Southampton at 1.40pm, arriving at 4.30pm local time. Flights leave Dijon at 12.10pm and land in Southampton at 1.10pm local time.

Kay Ryan, Eastern Airwaysโ€™ commercial director, said: โ€œWe introduced the new seasonal service from Southampton as part of our wider development plans in Dijon providing an international link to the south of England. Flights have proved popular over the summer season and weโ€™ve taken a decision to extend the service with it now running until the end of October. These services will then be reintroduced in April 2012.โ€

Jan Halliday, Southampton Airportโ€™s director of marketing & communications, commented: โ€œThe service between Southampton and Dijon was launched as a brand new route for 2011, and is the first time regular air links have been established between the two regions. Weโ€™re thrilled that demand for the route has been so popular, and flights are being extended into the Autumn as a result. For the people of the Burgundy region, this is the only way to access the UK and enables them to easily access the whole of the south of England and London, which is just 66 minutes away by train. The route will also be returning for next summer as well, providing the ideal way to access the London 2012 activities in both London and Weymouth.โ€

The city of Dijon is the capital of the Cote dโ€™Or and Bourgogne region and industry includes manufacturing, automobile, electronics, machinery and pharmaceuticals. The region has some of the countryโ€™s best wine producing vineyards, and of course Dijon is famous for its mustard.

The Southampton service was introduced as part of Eastern Airwaysโ€™ expansion plans for Dijon, following the set up of a dedicated French base in September 2010 with domestic services to Bordeaux and Toulouse. The Southampton service is Dijonโ€™s only international route and was launched after the start of an additional domestic service to Nantes.

All Eastern Airways passengers travelling from Southampton have access to a dedicated fast track security channel to avoid any queues in security search. Onboard, passengers receive an efficient service with complimentary hot and cold drinks, plus snacks. Eastern Airways offers an all inclusive service, which means thereโ€™s no additional charge for check-in, hold baggage or choice of seat.
