La Reunion Island has become the first tourism destination to work in partnership with a French football club, more specifically the PSG (Paris-Saint Germain), in which plays the La Reunion-born footballer Guillaume Hoarau.

The partnership agreement with the PSG club has been signed by La Reunion Tourism.

It will have both the PSG team and the islandโ€™s tourism body working in collaboration throughout the football season of 2011-2012, which started on August 6 at โ€œParc de Princesโ€ in Paris with the match PSG vs. Lorient.

With a total of 19 matches in the first division and the qualification matches for the Europa League, La Reunion Tourism is expecting to gain a high level of visibility for the destination as it will benefit from extensive promotion opportunities throughout the football season.

The partnership will allow La Reunion Island to be seen around the stadium in France, where the PSG team will be playing. Furthermore, the island will have the opportunity of screening its promotional film on the stadiumโ€™s giant screen that will be viewed by football spectators. It is to be noted that in 2010, the matches were broadcasted live by some of the major national TV stations to some 5,600,000 viewers; while, a total of 600,000 spectators are expected to attend the matches for this season.

For this football season, the football games will be watched by an even wider audience with Qatar having now received the rights to air the matches on the Aljazirah TV, which will be launching a football channel.

The La Reunion tourism logo will also appear on the programs for the matches all throughout the season of 2011-2012. The La Reunion Island will be further featured in the sportsโ€™ newsletter, on the PSG website, and at its club itself, which on the whole will bring widespread media attention for the destination.

Other than the strategic promotion campaign, the partnership also holds a number of surprises for the island such as the arrival of the PSGโ€™s technical expertise to La Reunion, which will benefit the formation of young La Reunion sportsmen into expert footballers.

Without doubt, a friendly match between the PSG and La Reunion football team is to be expected, which in turn will be the perfect occasion to see the Reunion football star Guillaume Hoarau in action on his home turf.
