Jamaica showcases its culture through food festivals

KINGSTON, Jamaica – This summer, visitors can taste the flavors of Jamaica at several food festivals happening across the island.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – This summer, visitors can taste the flavors of Jamaica at several food festivals happening across the island. From its Jamaican jerk spices and stewed sauces to its curried goat and internationally sold patties, the island’s fare is recognized and enjoyed around the world. For Jamaica, its culinary offerings reflect the fusion of the destination’s people and culture. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore Jamaica’s past and present by sampling its cuisine and taking part in festival activities, including music, art and dancing.

The following is a schedule of upcoming food festival events for the summer and fall in Jamaica:

Ocho Rios Seafood Festival, Turtle River Park, Ocho Rios

August 1

This festival has grown into one of the biggest culinary shows in the country. The affair will feature several of Jamaica’s leading seafood chefs and is expected to draw a large number of local and international patrons. Fashion shows, dance contests, live comedy and music complete this family-themed event.

Bath Food Festival, Bath, St. Thomas

August 6

The Bath Food Festival introduces visitors to the Bath Botanical Garden, which is the second oldest botanical garden in the western hemisphere. Guests can experience the therapeutic and healing properties of the St. Thomas Bath & Spa, as well as get a taste of the community’s food and culture.

Pirates Gold “Rums of the Caribbean” Festival, Rose Hall Great House, Montego Bay

This festival highlights Jamaica’s storied history of rum making and the pirates who made it famous. The fair will expose visitors to different rum brands and rum based products. It will also provide networking opportunities for regional and international distributors and feature a variety of Jamaican cuisine.

Wine and Food Festival, Cable & Wireless Golf Academy, Kingston

September 30

This signature event raises funds for The Heart Foundation of Jamaica’s continued fight against heart disease in Jamaica. Guests are invited to sample wine and heart-healthy foods at over 30 booths.

Oktoberfest, Holger Waehling Jamaican German Society, Kingston

October 29

Oktoberfest is an annual German festival, celebrating 32 years in Jamaica. The event highlights Germany’s cultural influence in Jamaica with games, prizes, specialty German foods, beers, wines and spirits.

Restaurant Week, Kingston

November 13-20

Restaurant Week is a week-long event celebrating the culinary communities of Kingston, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. Fine restaurants tempt diners with discounts up to fifty percent on three-course meals in various categories. Guests can also take advantage of complimentary post-dinner cocktails in Kingston nightclubs.
