Jamaica’s resort capital welcome world’s greatest reggae festival

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The island of Jamaica will be the backdrop for the 19th Annual Reggae Sumfest from July 17 – 23, in Jamaica’s resort capital, Montego Bay.

KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The island of Jamaica will be the backdrop for the 19th Annual Reggae Sumfest from July 17 – 23, in Jamaica’s resort capital, Montego Bay. Reggae Sumfest, is a week-long, world-renowned festival that honors reggae legends of the past while also featuring the sounds of today’s hip-hop and R&B superstars. The Jamaica Tourist Board sponsors the event, which begins with an exciting beach party on July 17 at the Aquasol Beach Park, followed by three nights of electrifying live performances at Catherine Hall, starting July 21.

“Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae music with legendary artists such as Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff having paved the way,” said John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “The Jamaica Tourist Board is a yearly sponsor of Reggae Sumfest because we feel it’s extremely important to encourage Jamaica’s musical arts as it’s intertwined with our culture. Reggae music has an identity with Jamaica. We will continue to provide a platform for reggae musicians, as well as popular performers from around the world.”

The following is a schedule of events for Jamaica’s Reggae Sumfest 2011.

Sunday, July 17

Opening Beach Party featuring Stone Love, Renaissance, DJ Nico and ZJ Ice at the Aquasol Beach Park.

Thursday, July 21

Performances by reggae artists Beenie Man, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Bounty Killer, Cecile, Spice, Kip Rich, Konshens, Khago, Tifa, Phood Kartel, Iya Blaze, Zamunda and I-Octane at Catherine Hall.

Friday, July 22

Featured performers include R. Kelly, Beres Hammond, Half Pint, Tanya Stephens, Christopher Martin, Richie Loops, Taddy P, Paul Elliott, and iBa Mahr.

Saturday, July 23

The main event includes headlining superstar Nicki Minaj, and internationally acclaimed Jamaican music artists including Jah Cure, Wayne Wonder, Gyptian, Protoje, Cherine and Chalice.
