LIBERTYVILLE, Illinois – There’s a reason tourism to Turkey increases by leaps and bounds each year. The people are welcoming, the food is delicious, and the countryside is like an open-air antiquities museum.

Now TourCrafters is offering a land-only 5-night/6-day Highlights of Turkey tour that costs only US$890 and includes arrival and departure transfers (at any time), accommodation in 4- and 5-star hotels, daily breakfasts, 3 dinners, professional tour guides, luggage handling in hotels, museum entrance fees, and local taxes.

Days 1 and 2 are spent in Istanbul — the exotic city on the Bosphorus that bridges East and West — with a guided sightseeing tour that takes in the city’s most famous monuments: Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the 550-year-old Grand Bazaar with its thousands of shops. Then there’s a trip to the capital, Ankara, and a visit to the mausoleum and museum of Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the modern Republic of Turkey. On to Cappadocia to see the ancient Kaymakli Underground City and Goreme’s rock-carved houses and churches, as well as carpets, tiles, and other local handicrafts.

The tour continues to the 13th-century Seljuk masterpiece, the Sultanhan Caravanserai; the Mausoleum of Mevlana (original home of the Whirling Dervishes) in Konya; and Pamukkale, to visit the ruins of the ancient spa city of Hierapolis, the Necropolis, and the terraces and pools of the dazzling limestone cascade. The tour ends in Marmaris, where you can catch a flight from the airport or a ferry to the Greek island of Rhodes. Another option: transfer to Antalya, to enjoy the nearby beach resorts (a supplement applies).

The tour starts in Istanbul on most Fridays from now through March, 2012. All prices quoted are per person, double occupancy, and are subject to availability. Reservations must be paid for within 72 hours of booking.
