JetBlue reaches milestone with 100 daily flights from Boston airport

BOSTON, Mass.

BOSTON, Mass. – JetBlue Airways, the largest airline serving Boston Logan International Airport and the Official Airline of the Boston Red Sox, today reached a milestone with its first day operating 100 flights at the airport. To celebrate, JetBlue’s Boston crewmembers created a 100-shaped human formation on the tarmac, symbolizing the airline’s commitment to the region, growth at the airport and dedication to serving its Boston customers.

“We want to thank our customers for recognizing the importance of high-quality, full-size jet air service by choosing to fly with JetBlue in Boston,” said Ian Deason, JetBlue’s Director, Boston Airport Operations. “Reaching 100 daily flights is the latest demonstration of our commitment to Boston and the surrounding region. We look forward to providing many more years of customer-friendly air travel one flight at a time, and also to supporting philanthropic efforts in the communities where our Boston crewmembers and customers live and work.”

Freni, Massport’s Director of Aviation. “JetBlue’s growth at Boston is so impressive and we are thrilled the airline continues to place such strong belief in Logan and the Boston market. It is not only good news for travelers, but with approximately 1,800 Boston-based employees and more needed to support JetBlue’s continued growth, it is wonderful news for the region.”

In late 2003, JetBlue recognized the need for high quality, competitively priced air service in Boston, and on January 7, 2004 began flying from Logan to three destinations: Denver, Orlando and Tampa, quickly followed by Fort Lauderdale and Long Beach. Bostonians quickly embraced JetBlue’s award-winning mix of friendly service, spacious assigned seating and free in-flight amenities, including unlimited snacks and TV programming at every seat, which prompted JetBlue to add more service.

Since JetBlue flights first graced Boston’s skies in 2004, the airline has added an average of five new destinations per year. By June 2011, JetBlue plans to offer non-stop service to 42 destinations across the country and throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. No airline has ever served as many destinations as JetBlue in Logan’s entire history as an airport.

Over the last two years, JetBlue has enjoyed exponential growth in Boston, with a 30% increase in daily departures in the summer of 2010 versus 2009, and an additional 25% growth planned for this year. Four daily flights from Logan to Newark will begin May 4. Seasonal daily non-stop service to Portland, Ore. begins May 26. Summer service to Oakland, Calif. also resumes in May. On June 17, JetBlue will begin the only non-stop service from Boston to Santiago, D.R. three times weekly, subject to receipt of government approval.

Customers connecting through Boston on JetBlue from select destinations can take advantage of convenient onward service to Europe and beyond on JetBlue’s partner airlines Aer Lingus, American Airlines, Lufthansa and Virgin Atlantic, or to destinations throughout New England with Cape Air.
