ORLANDO, FL (August 7, 2008) – AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., today began service between Richmond International Airport and LaGuardia Airport in New York. The airline has added two new daily nonstop flights between the two cities, which are operated with AirTran Airways’ fuel-efficient Boeing 717 aircraft.
“The addition of these flights and a third destination out of Richmond International Airport are evidence of AirTran Airways’ continued commitment to Richmond travelers,” said Kevin Healy, senior vice president of marketing and planning for AirTran Airways. “Our expansion to the New York area adds our unique blend of low fare, high-quality service between key business and leisure markets.”
“Richmond International Airport welcomes AirTran Airways’ launch of twice-daily service between Richmond and New York LaGuardia,” said Beverley W. “Booty” Armstrong, chairman of the Capital Region Airport Commission. “The new access to LaGuardia complements AirTran’s popular flights from RIC to Atlanta and Orlando and provides travelers from Virginia’s Capital Region an attractive mix of award-winning service, affordable fares and full-sized aircraft to a top business destination.”
