Istanbul, Turkey (eTN) – Representatives of Turkey’s tourism sector have expressed their desire to tap the Scandinavian market. This development comes following Turkey’s successful participation in a tourism fair in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“We may see around 20-30 percent rise from Norwegian market, and the situation is not different in Swedish and Danish markets,” Hasan Efkan Dirik, who opened a stand at the fair on behalf of Association of Side Tourism Agents (Side-TUDER), told the media.

According to Dirik, there is great interest in Istanbul in Scandinavia since this metropolis has been declared as the European Cultural Capital in 2010. “Cappadocia region is also on the rise in Scandinavian market,” he told AA.

AA is also reporting that a Norwegian agency is selling Istanbul tours. Reidar Svedahl, president of Executive Board of a Norwegian-based Turkietresor company, told AA he is selling Turkey tours in Sweden although his company is based in Norway.

“Turkey is preferred as a tourist destination for it is a warm country, shopping is cheap and there are many entertainment opportunities there, and for it has history and culture,” he was quoted as saying.

According to him, the company will bring 10,000 tourists from Sweden to Istanbul this year.
