NEW YORK – The National Tartan Day New York Committee invites all New Yorkers to join in celebrating the 13th Annual Tartan Week, from April 3rd to 10th, with a full range of Scottish-themed events covering the city.

A 10k run in Central Park; the sound of bagpipes and Scottish music around the city; the celebration of fashion at Dressed to Kilt, Scotland’s largest export at Whisky Live; a retrospective of Alexander Hamilton’s life at the Museum of American Finance, a ceilidh for the musically inclined โ€“ something for everyone.

On Saturday April 9th, the thrilling sounds of pipe bands bring the Tartan Day Parade to the Avenue of the Americas. With over 3000 marchers expected the Parade will be led this year by Grand Marshal, The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Bob Winter. The Lord Provost has attended many of the past celebrations. “It is an immense honor for me, and for Glasgow, to lead the NY Tartan Day Parade as Grand Marshal. It will be a great day out for the Scots-American community.”

Joining the Lord Provost of Glasgow will be Rt. Hon. The Earl of Caithness, PC, Convenor of the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, and this year’s Honorary Parade Chairman. Parade Committee President, Margaret Kennedy, said, “We are thrilled to have Bob Winter as Grand Marshal; he has dedicated his career to public service. Malcolm Caithness, our Parade Chairman, has worked tirelessly as Sinclair Clan Chief, for clan members and to save their legendary Castle, Sinclair Girnigoe. Both Bob and Malcolm are keen believers in strengthening US/Scotland ties.”

The Parade begins at 2pm, and goes from 45th to 58th Street up Avenue of the Americas. Pipe Bands, both military and civilian, and clans from all over the United States and Scotland will be joined by the biggest pack of wee Scotties and Westies in any Parade, bringing New Yorkers together in celebrating Scottish-American heritage and friendship.
