The European Union has demonstrated its support for the 2011 Seychelles “Carnaval International de Victoria” due to be held between March 4-6, 2011 by pledging to have all its member states represented by their respective national flags during the procession of floats due to take place on the 2nd day of the Carnival. The European Union itself will be represented by its own EU flag.

The Carnival organizers are arranging for each of the flags of its member countries to be carried by a young Seychellois who will also wear a T-shirt bearing the name of the country in question. The children will join the procession through Victoria, the Capital of the Seychelles, in the company of other Carnival participants in what promises to be a spectacular and colorful display never before seen on the streets of the capital.

It is indeed fitting that the states of the European Union should be represented at the 2011 Seychelles “Carnaval International de Victoria,” which is set to showcase Seychelles as the melting pot of peoples from the four corners of the planet, which have each woven rich strains from their particular cultural identity into todayโ€™s Seychellois Creole society.

The three days of carnival will commence with an opening ceremony in the presence of President of the Republic of Seychelles, James Michel, and visiting dignitaries from many different countries, along with 2 days of live music shows, carnival processions, an array of international food stalls, a family fun day, and all-night party.

On receiving confirmation of the European Union’s participation in the Seychelles Carnival, Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board and eTurboNews Ambassador, said that the European Union is a respected and recognized solid grouping of countries, and their participation in the Seychelles Carnival will help showcase the unity of the European Block. “EU is a block of countries respecting each others’ diversity and culture, and what a better event than at the Seychelles Carnival, which has been promiting itself as the melting pot of cultures, for EU to showcase its own diversity through the National Flags of each member state,” Alain St.Ange said.
