2011, which has been declared the Year of Tourism in Azerbaijan, will be significant to conduct measures to implement new infrastructure projects, said on Friday the Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev at the board meeting devoted to the fifth anniversary of the establishment of Ministry.

“A number of tourist facilities will also be constructed in the country’s regions during the Year of Tourism,” said the minister.

This year it is also planned to conduct a series of international events that are envisaged by the State tourism development program for 2011-1014. Vice Prime Minister Elchin Efendiyev said that in Azerbaijan, by the creation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the tourism has not received such a development as today.

“For example, Turkey’s tourism revenues in 2010 totaled $23 billion, and it makes up one-fourth of the budget revenues of the country. These figures show that it is important to develop the tourism industry in Azerbaijan,” said Deputy Prime Minister.

To improve the quality of tourism and promote training, the Institute of Tourism was established in February 2006, which last year graduated the first specialists.

Currently, Azerbaijani Institute of Tourism is one of five universities in the country, said Efendiyev.
