Yemen tourism revenues are expected to reach US$1.1 billion this year, including an estimated US$600 million during the 20th Gulf soccer championship that took place through November 22 to December 5 in the south, the Tourism Minister said.

Last year, Yemen posted US$9.3 million in tourism revenues in 2009. In a statement to the Saudi al Watan newspaper, Nabil al Faqhi said his ministry aims to develop the tourism sector by 7 percent to create 370,000 more jobs including 91,000 direct opportunities.
