Canada is the top foreign destination for Americans

Despite the slowing U.S.

Despite the slowing U.S. economy, half of all Americans say they still intend to travel abroad within the next year and their number one destination is Canada, according to a survey commissioned by Visa.

Next on the popularity list is Mexico followed by Great Britain, Italy, France, the Bahamas and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

It’s hard to know if these travel plans are wishful thinking for some or if they will actually follow through with their intentions. People in the U.S. tourism industry are seeing a slowdown in bookings and noting that people are waiting until the last minute to book hotels and flights.

Here in Canada, vacationers are still planning to hit the road this summer, despite high fuel costs. Canadians seem to be economizing in other ways to offset the costs, but don’t want to give up their annual summer holiday.
