British Airways launches flights to Gothenburg

CRAWLEY, England – British Airways has launched its flights to Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city, with flights available to book in Club Europe, British Airway’s Business Class cabin.

Flights to Gothenburg depart twice daily from Heathrow Terminal 5.

Richard Tams, British Airways’ head of UK and international sales, said at the announcement of the new route: “We are really excited about flying to this fabulous city on the south west coast of Sweden. It boasts Michelin star restaurants, culture and the best views of the famous Northern lights. The schedule is perfect for UK originating day round trips, and for connections onto the worldwide network.”

British Airways offers a selection of hand picked 2 to 5-star hotels in Gothenburg, ideally suited to the urban tourist seeking sophistication. Customers can stay at the three-star Apple hotel, offering easy to use public transport links and close to the famous Boulevard Avenue with plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. The four-star Avalon hotel, a member of Design hotels, will also be available soon, featuring a roof top pool. Its restaurant and bar, with a spacious open air area in season, is a most popular meeting place. The Avalon will be available on ba.com shortly.

The launch of the new flights to Gothenburg coincides with the city’s famous Christmas market which is in the Liseburg Amusement Park. Scandinavia’s biggest Christmas market houses more than 60 stalls, filling the air with Christmas joy. The market takes place between November 12 and December 30, 2010. British Airways offers a wide range of other destinations perfect for Christmas and New Year breaks. Customers can choose between packages to old favourites like Christmas city breaks to Berlin, Salzburg and Vienna. Other top Christmas markets in Europe include Prague, Innsbruck and Budapest. Most markets start middle of November and last until the end of December.

As well as the soon to be launched flights to Gothenburg, British Airways also offers daily flights to Stockholm, known for striking architecture and its beautiful waterside setting. Spread across 14 islands, Stockholm has a range of hotels, including the 4-star Stureplan and the stylish 4-star Hellsten.
