Alitalia receives Best Airline Cuisine award

NEW YORK – Alitalia, Italy’s largest airline, has taken Italian cuisine to new heights this year and has been awarded “Best Airline Cuisine” by the readers of Global Traveler magazine.

NEW YORK – Alitalia, Italy’s largest airline, has taken Italian cuisine to new heights this year and has been awarded “Best Airline Cuisine” by the readers of Global Traveler magazine. Earlier this year, Alitalia introduced new menus designed to showcase the culinary specialities of Italy’s regions in its Magnifica Class cabin.

Global Traveler’s seventh annual GT Tested Reader Survey Awards program surveyed more than 25,000 business and luxury travelers to determine the best in business and luxury travel for 2010. The GT Tested Reader Survey Awards will be presented on Jan. 18, 2011, in New York City.

“We’re honored to win this award,” said Andrea Stolfa, Executive Vice President Marketing, Network and Revenue Management at Alitalia. “Since implementing our new service in Magnifica Class, we have received high customer satisfaction for the quality of the menus and cuisine. With the new Italian menus we offer our customers a real high quality ‘Made in Italy’ experience.”

This year, Alitalia introduced regional Italian cuisine in Magnifica Class as part of a larger initiative to offer customers an authentic Italian experience. In addition to menus that rotate every three months, Alitalia is incorporating many products that are certified as authentic to the region in the dishes served on board. The wines served in Magnifica Class are paired with each menu and are hand-selected by the Italian Sommelier Association. Magnifica Class service also includes linens designed by Italian luxury brand Frette, tableware designed by Richard Ginori and personal care items created by Culti.

“Congratulations to Alitalia. I’ve always believed Alitalia serves some of the finest airline cuisine, and friends and colleagues have consistently agreed with me,” said Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO, Global Traveler. “Adding the Best Airline Cuisine category in 2010 finally gave our readers the chance to bestow this long deserved honor on Alitalia. It’s comforting to see our readers agree with the esteemed staff and journalists at Global Traveler.”

Global Traveler conducted an open-ended reader survey of its readers from Jan. 1, 2010, to Aug. 31, 2010, to determine the best in many categories of business and luxury travel. Only those questionnaires that were at least 50 percent completed were considered and an outside accounting firm tabulated the results.

The December issue of Global Traveler magazine features Alitalia’s “Best Airline Cuisine” award.
