(eTN) – December 17 has been provisionally set for the re-opening of Mt. Meru Hotel in Arusha after well over a two years of closure for rebuilding and refurbishments. The multi-million, US-dollar project was long in coming and the re-opening will add much needed hotel bed capacity in Arusha. According to a source, over US$24 million was spent on the renovations.

Arusha is generally considered the “safari capital of East Africa” and a springboard for such diverse activities as climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or Mt. Meru and visiting the northern parks of Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti.

Arusha is also known to be the seat of the East African Community headquarters and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Rwanda genocide, making the municipality a center for meetings, conferences, and conventions and bringing in a constant stream of business visitors and tourists from which the local labor and agricultural market benefits well.
